Platform Migration

Move your store without starting over.

The fear with any migration is the same: that you come out the other side with broken links, missing orders, and a search ranking you spent years building. The work is in making sure none of that happens.

What a migration covers

Most of a migration is data and redirects, not design. The storefront is the visible part, but the parts that decide whether the move succeeds are the ones customers never see.

  • Catalog migration. Products, variants, options, images, and categories all moved across to the new platform.
  • Customers and order history. Past orders and customer accounts carried over, so support requests about last year's order can still be answered.
  • URL mapping and redirects. Every old product and category URL mapped to its new home, so existing search rankings and inbound links keep working.
  • Payments, shipping, and tax. Reconfigured on the new platform and tested with real transactions before anything goes live.
  • Storefront rebuild. Your existing look carried over, or a new theme set up if the move is a good moment to change it.
  • Email migration, if needed. When your business email is hosted with the platform you are leaving, mailboxes and DNS records are moved to a new provider before the old one goes away, so nothing bounces.
  • Cutover planning. A tested plan for the switch itself, including what happens to orders placed while the change is in progress.

How a migration runs

Three phases. You see the store working on the new platform before anything is pointed at it.

1. Assess and plan

We talk through the challenges you are running into now, then look at what's actually in your current store: catalog size and structure, and integrations. That determines what the move involves and whether it's worth doing.

2. Build and migrate

The new store gets built and the data moved into it, out of sight of customers. Your current store keeps selling throughout.

3. Launch and hand over

Redirects go in, the switch happens, and we watch what search engines and customers do next. Then you get the walkthrough of running it yourself, if that's what you want.

Not sure moving is the right call?

Sometimes it isn't, and the honest answer is to fix what you have. We will tell you that if it's what we find.
